報告人簡介:George Coupland is a Director of the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research in Cologne, Germany, a position he has held since 2001. Between 1989 and 2001 he was a Group Leader at the John Innes Centre, Norwich, UK. He obtained his BSc from the University of Glasgow in 1981, his PhD from the University of Edinburgh in 1984 and was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Cologne between 1985 and 1988. He studies the mechanisms by which plants detect seasonal cues and use this information to control flowering and reproductive development. His group used the model species Arabidopsis thaliana to define the mechanisms by which plants detect day length in the leaf and signal to the shoot apex to trigger floral development. They also developed the related species Arabis alpina as a comparative system to study the perennial life cycle, and defined mechanisms controlling juvenility and duration of flowering. He is an elected member of Leopoldina, the Royal Society and the National Academy of Sciences, USA.
